Albertson's has several products this week that are buy 10, save $5 instantly. It proved to be a great time for me to stock up on some canned goods.
I bought:
10 cans Green Giant green beans
10 cans cream of mushroom soup
10 cans cream of chicken soup
10 cans chicken broth
4 cans Progresso chicken noodle soup
3 cans Campbell's tomato soup
1 can French's french fried onions
3 28-oz bottles vegetable oil
2 20-oz pkgs lean ground turkey (these were BOGO Free)
1 bag frozen tater tots
1 bag frozen steak fries
1 12-oz bottle of milk (not pictured because Andrew was drinking it)
Total spent for 56 items: $37.48, total saved: $56.86
I could have saved an additional $1, but I made a little mistake in this trip. Due to my previous experience with deals like this, I assumed that the $5 "instant savings" would be a coupon for $5 off your next purchase, so I separated my groceries into multiple transactions at checkout so I could use the $5 from one transaction to pay for the next. Because almost everything I bought was part of the buy 10, save $5 deal and it was a mix and match deal, I didn't pay attention to which 10 items I put in each transaction. I ended up splitting my 4 cans of Progresso soup into two different transactions, and then realized once one of the orders had already been rung up that I had planned on using a $1 off 4 coupon on the soups. Because they were split into two separate transactions, the coupon wouldn't work. Doh! I ended up being wrong about how the deal worked anyway--they actually just give you $5 in savings off your order, so I didn't need to split my order into multiple transactions after all. I'll have to pay closer attention next time.
